TEATRO Si

TEATRO Sí and STUDIO Sí, the educational affiliate, were established to promote a deeper understanding and a unifying appreciation of Latin America and Spain’s significant impact on the local, national and global community. The company is dedicated to this mission through the production, presentation, innovation, collaberation and practice of theatrical and creative arts that celebrate the rich and diverse heritage of  the 21 Hispanic nations from Mexico to Argentina, the Caribbean region and Spain.

Since the inaugural concert in the summer of 2009 hundreds of music lovers have enjoyed the FIRST FRIDAY Music Series , presented by TEATRO Si at the intimate Galeria West Art Gallery, located at 111 Quimby Street in downtown Westfield, NJ. This once a month live concert event continues to bring to the area a unique opportunity to enjoy a diversity of music genres as performed by a select series of renowned artists.
The FIRST FRIDAY events continue on Friday, June 4, 2010 at 7pm with the mesmerizing music traditions of Ecuador as interpreted by the acclaimed Trio Pasional.
Trio Pasional consists of North American flutist Sharon Levin, Ecuadorian guitarist Louis Cardenas and Dominican guitarist Luis Polanco. These dynamic performers have been entertaining audiences in the New York metropolitan area and beyond for over 15 years. The music of Pasional, says Cardenas, is representative of the various facets of Ecuadorian sentiments and cultures of many generations. An important contribution has been made by Levin, first chair with the New Jersey Pops Orchestra, who he says, has brought her classical training and sensitivity to these unique mestizo sounds, creating a remarkable listening experience for audiences.
Luis Polanco brings with him a rich musical background. He has performed and led numerous salsa and merengue orchestras both in the U.S. and in his native Dominican Republic. He has performed in Mexico with the well-known Cuban group Cuco Valoi and his Orchestra. His virtuosity on the guitar adds greatly to the sound of Trio Pasional.
Luis Cardenas has been performing on the Spanish guitar since the age of fourteen and comes to share with us his wonderful interpretations of the haunting mestizo sounds of his native Ecuador.
We hope you will join us often during the year to celebrate the arts in a unique setting. We recommend that you consider enjoying a fine meal before or after the concert at one of the fine eateries in quaint downtown Westfield and the surrounding area. Most are located within a short walk from the gallery. Concert tickets are priced at $15 per person. Advance tickets are available online at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/113631.                  For reservations and more information call the TEATRO Si box office at 908-301-9496. For more information visit www.TeatroSi.com.                                                      Proceeds from each event benefit theatrical programming efforts at TEATRO Si, a 501(c)3 New Jersey non-profit corporation based in Westfield.
