Westfield Announcements

Work is expected to begin on or about August 24, 2009 on an important phase of the Downtown Improvement Plan. The South Avenue Streescape project includes curb, sidewalk, landscaping and new decorative lighting from Westfield Avenue to Central Avenue. The historic light poles will be provided and installed by PSE&G after the conclusion of the work. In addition, existing parking meters will be removed and replaced with parking pay stations with numbered parking spaces, providing additional parking opportunities along South Ave. The bus stop will be relocated on South Avenue to the Northern corner of Boulevard.

Work is expected to start on the South Ave. train station lot side first. As work moves to the other side of South Avenue, parking and sidewalk will be disrupted during the time that each building front is being worked on. Plywood platforms with carpeted entrances will be used to allow access to each storefront and driveways will be accommodated for access.

It is antipated that the work will be completed within 6 to 8 weeks. In the interim, the Town of Westfield appreciates your patience and understanding.
