The New Jersey Workshop for the Arts, located at 150-152 East Broad Street in Westfield, can help students of all ages find that perfect program to begin a new study or to improve upon an existing skill.
At the Music Studio, vocal and instrumental music lessons, for both children and adults, are taught by a staff of more than 30 professional music educators. Private instruction is given daily at in a 30, 45 or 60 minute format. The Music Studio includes lessons in voice, strings, guitar, woodwinds, brass, percussion and piano.
Children, ages 4 and older, can learn the fundamentals of playing the piano in a group program called Kids on Keys. This unique class uses Musique Rapide, an easy-to-understand system that provides students with a take-home kit that includes a keyboard and game board.
The NJWA Music Studio also offers other group lessons for the young musician. Group Guitar and Young Voices are specifically designed for children ages 5 to 7.
Kids ‘n’ Arts, an art, music and theater craft experience for children, ages 3 to 5, will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 9:30 to 11:30 am or 12:30 to 2:30 pm. In this 15 week drop-off course, children create arts and crafts, explore music, and express themselves through acting, theater games, creative movement, puppetry and pantomime.
In addition to its instructional courses, art gallery, music store and outreach programs, The Music Studio also offers many opportunities for area musicians to play in its performing ensembles, bands and orchestras. Among these are the NJWA Concert Band, the Training Chamber Orchestra, the Rockin’ Jazz Band, Simply Strings, the International/American Alphorn Society Ensemble, the Bravura Quintet, the Chamber Orchestra and the NJWA Summer Symphony.
